I am related to Robert Brumby and Hannah Hodgetts through their daughter Hannah who married John Bull. I was wondering if there are any photos which have come to hand of any of that generation of Brumbys in Australia. I have a very old photo on glass taken around 1860 which is not named and I was wondering if there is anything to compare it with for likeness. Hannah and John Bull left Australia for New Zealand in 1865 and I wondered if it was given to her as a gift. Would love to know if anyone has a photo to compare it with.

Hi, I was brought up with the name Bromby, and on searching have found it varied from Brumby/Bromby. My ancestors came from Glanford Brigg, Nr Scunthiorpe, Lincolnshire, England. Any cousins out there?

Hi Ian, have just had a really good look at your website - it is fascinating. I think there may be a connection somewhere, because some of my ancestors came from East Retford. The Brumby name is certainly very extensive and I am proud to have been born a Brumby. Incidentally, the last message posted on here is from the granddaughter of my uncle Ronnie. So Nicola, if you are looking at this, get in touch, we can share information. Ian keep up the good work and I will send my family history details to you soon (when I've mastered the best way to sort it and send it!) Regards...Angela (nee Brumby)

Hi, i belong to a line of the Brumby family which does not appear in the search. Thought I should say Hello.

My Great Grandad is Albert Brumby born in 1941 in Liverpool. My Grandad, Ronald Brumby, is one of six children, who has gone on to have eight sons, all with their own children.

I will try to find out more family information if you would like it to be added to the site.

I found the Lee Family Tree brought some of the Brumbies in Australia up to the present day. http://www.leehistory.net/genealogy/search.

Evidently the name in reguard to the Australian wild horse comes from James Brumby who was given a land grant at Hunters Hill NSW before being moved to Tasmania, stock that was left in NSW to run wild was Called brumbies possesive case.

It's great to find a website dedicated to the Brumby's. I only became one through marriage a few years ago but it's such an unusual name it's nice to know there are more of us in England than I thought. I always thought it was an Austrailian name, but am delighted to know that it is from Viking heritage!
