Hi there, not sure if I have any relatives out there, I know my Grandparents are no longer alive, their names were Albert and Evelyn Brumby. My fathers name is Keith Brumby, however I have no contact with him since I was a young child. My D.O.B is 09/03/1976.

My Grandad was Charles Brumby born 1909 died 1989, who married Dorothy Sharp born 1918 died 2008 both lived in Claxby, Lincolnshire. They had seven children Alan, Betty, George, Colin, Deliah, John, Gordon. Sadly only one, Alan, had a boy which is myself Paul born in 1970 who now has two boys, Connor 1995 and Jordan 1999, the Brumbys keep on going. I will try to find out more info, birth places, birth dates if that would be of help.

I am related to Robert Brumby and Hannah Hodgetts through their daughter Hannah who married John Bull. I was wondering if there were any photos which have come to hand of that generation of Brumbys in Australia? I have a very old photo on glass taken around 1860 which is not named and I was wondering if there is anything to compare it with for likeness. Hannah and John Bull left Australia for New Zealand in 1865 and I wondered if it was given to her as a gift. Would love to know if anyone has a photo to compare it with.

Hi, I was brought up with the name Bromby, and on searching have found it varied from Brumby/Bromby. My ancestors came from Glanford Brigg, nr Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. Any cousins out there?

Hi Ian, have just had a really good look at your website - it is fascinating. I think there may be a connection somewhere, because some of my ancestors came from East Retford. The Brumby name is certainly very extensive and I am proud to have been born a Brumby. Incidentally, the last message posted on here is from the grandaughter of my Uncle Ronnie. So Nicola, if you are looking at this, get in touch, we can share information.
Ian keep up the good work and I will send my family history details to you soon (when I've mastered the best way to sort it and send it!)
Regards....Angela

Hi, i belong to a line of the Brumby family which does not appear in the search. Thought I would say hello.
My Grandad, Ronald Brumby, is one of six children, who has gone on to have eight sons, all with their own children.
I will try to find out more family information if you like it to be added to the site.

I found the Lee Family Tree brought some of the Brumbies in Australia up to the present day. [ www.leehistory.net]
Evidently the name in reguard to the Australian wild horse comes from James Brumby who was given a land grant at Hunters Hill NSW before being moved to Tasmania, stock that was left in NSW to run wild was called brumbies possive case.

It's great to find a website dedicated to Brumby's. I only became one through marriage a few years ago but it's such an unusual name it's nice to know there are more of us in England than I thought. I always thought it was an Australian name, but I'm delighted to know that it is from Viking heritage!

I'm descended from Ann Lambert (nee Brumby, b.1779) of Blyton, Lincolnshire - and before that, a long line of Thomas brumbys of Blyton, and Messingham so it seems I share a lot of ancestors with the Aus. Brumbys.Have found out so much from this site - thanks! We live in Yorkshire, very close to Lincs, so will drive across soon and see if there are any more Brumby gravestones to photograph. Our branch of Brumby descendents ended up over the river in Yorkshire, so we didn't get so far as the rest! If anyone would like us to go and find a place in Lincs to photograph, will have a go. My Ann Brumby (daughter of Thomas Brumby and Ann Wood) ended up a farmer in Corringham, Lincs and is on the 1841 Census (1851 as well, I think?) as Ann Lambert. Hope that helps someone.

Interesting site.
Will there be more information soon?
It seems a number of individuals are quite fascinated with the origins of the name Brumby. Additionally it has been a subject of discussion with the Australian publication 'The Outback Magazine'. Maybe someone could shed further light on the connection with the wild Australian horses.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on the connection?

My father was Lawrence Milton Brumby, son of Joseph Alfred, son of James, son of Mjr. James Brumby who came to Australia with the Third Fleet ex Scotton, Lincolnshire.
My mother, Ellen Brumby lived to 99 years and 1 month, so she should go to the top of the longest lived.

My great grandfather was William Brumby born 1857 in Tasmania. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1874. Due to a simple spelling mistake my grandfather and 3 of his siblings bore the surname Bromby, as did their descendants.

Hi,
I'm an ancestor of the Brumbys from Alford who migrated to Australia in the 1800's. It has been fun trying to find their relatives in Lincolnshire. Many of the families are call the same and as you know it is hard to find who is related to whom.
Cheers,
Carolan Hill
