Hi There,
I am a descendant of William Wingate who migrated to australia in 1840. William had a daughter who married into the brumby family. I am trying to make contact with anyone who may have any early photos of this family.
regards
Peter

Hello Peter,
Saw your entry on the 'The Brumby Family' website asking about a William Wingate. I have a William Wingate who emigrated to Australia in 1852. He had two daughters: Jessie Wotherspoon (born about 1848), Isabella Anderson (born about 1850). Are either of these the girls who married into the Brumby Family?

Ian,
thank you for putting together such a great resource.
From memory our family came out in the early 1800's to Australia from Hull in Yorkshire.

My mother was Ann Wallis Brumby (Darling)
We are descended from Thomas Lyal Brumby,a native of Manchester England, that emigrated to South Carolina abt 1740 and settled in Georgetown,SC. His son Thomas married Susannah Greening. Thomas was appointed by Thomas Jefferson to the office of Surveyor of the Port of Charleston in 1803. They had five sons and two daughters. Their eighth child was Arnoldus Vanderhorst Brumby who married Ann Eliza Wallis. These are my great great grandparents. My question is do you have any history on My Thomas Brumby from Manchester? I have all the Brumby connections here. If I can help anyone else with names or dates I would do all I could to oblige. Thanks....

Hi, My name is Karen Brumby Strobaugh, and my greatgrandfather was John Greening Brumby. My family is decended from John Greenings third wife, Carrie Cason. I`ve been researching our family for years. The goal is to trace our roots back to England. I have a wonderful family portrait of the John Greening family in front of their house in Marrietta ,Georgia .The picture was taken in about 1891. My grandfather , Clarence Peck Brumby was 10 years old.

I'm the son of George Michael Brumby, born in London in 1954. My dads family hail from Lincolnshire, UK
A long time ago, a yorkshire army captain was posted to Australia. He took with him his prized horses. For reasons I don't know, he had to return to the UK and he released the horses into the wild. The stallions, being of a superior stock quickly became the lead stallions of wild heards and that is where the term 'Brumbies' come from. Hope this is of use to someone. Sorry I don't have more detailed information.
Love the site
Kind regards
Michael
